Sealey Combustion Leak Detector

The Sealey Combustion Leak Detector quickly diagnoses blown head gaskets, cracked blocks, and cylinder heads on both petrol and diesel vehicles. It works by checking for the presence of CO₂ in the cooling system, with a simple test fluid colour change that indicates leakage.

Instructions:

1. Ensure the radiator is cool before opening the cap and wear protective gloves and eye protection.
2. Remove a small amount of coolant (around 1/10 of system volume) from the radiator or header tank.
3. Assemble the tester with either the cone adaptor or a compatible radiator cap adaptor.
4. Fill the upper chamber with detector fluid up to the dotted line.
5. Start the engine and allow vapour to enter the lower chamber.
6. Squeeze the bulb several times to draw vapour into the fluid chamber.
7. Observe the test fluid — if CO₂ is present, the colour changes from blue to yellow.
8. After testing, pump fresh air through the chamber until the fluid returns to blue for reuse.
